ADDITION TO AN EXISTING ORDER

In this assignment, the task is to expand upon the renowned Smith House, originally designed by architect Richard Meier in 1965. The addition should serve as a testament to a thorough analysis of the existing systems and design principles within the house, with the primary goal of preserving the original design's integrity.

For this project, it is essential to contemplate conceptual parallels when planning the expansion, and you are also tasked with integrating a meta-concept or overarching narrative to address the new requirements of the homeowners. This approach will necessitate the introduction of new systems or patterns that were not present in the original residence.

Narrative:

Nick, one of the 21 players of the AIC soccer team who traveled to the Smith House after winning their national championship game, has been able to keep the trophy. Nick is majoring in Architecture one day while looking at the trophy he noticed the design of the trophy and thought of using the trophy as a Inspiration to one of his house designs. A few days later Mr.Smith asked Nick to design a Cardio Room and that's when Nick thought of using the trophy as his inspiration to make the Cardio room.

PRELIMINARY DESIGN

Conceptual Meta Idea

To incorroporate my meta idea, the trophy, into my house, I utilized it as a central element for the overall structure. The trophy, acting as a deck, features handles that serve as skylights, allowing natural light to illuminate the space below. The deck  is supported by two columns, seamlessly connecting to my hierarchy which is the exercise room. To add an extra layer of intrigue, I extended my focus to the roof. Drawing inspiration from the trophy's handles, I incorporated their design into the roof structure.
